Map for a Looped Cycle Route

Clifden Bike Shop, approached me to create a map that would guide their clients along a safe and enjoyable looped cycle route. The map needed to be functional, easy to understand, and visually engaging to enhance the overall cycling experience.

For this project, I adopted a clean and streamlined illustration style to prioritize clarity and usability. The map highlights the designated route with key landmarks, safety tips, and points of interest along the way. By incorporating minimalist design elements and intuitive visuals, I ensured the map would be accessible to a wide audience, including first-time visitors and seasoned cyclists alike.

This map has become an invaluable tool for Clifden Bike Shop, allowing them to efficiently communicate the correct route to their clients without needing to repeatedly explain the same information. Win win!

Interesting family fact

My mother’s side of the family leads back to the famous map maker John Speed. Famous for leaving out Connemara altogether in his map of Ireland circa 1650!

I really enjoy showing information in a geographical context. It provides endless challenges and opportunities. Helping people to discover the best of what’s around them is a fulfilling outcome.

Within the Village Roundstone - Maps

This project involved designing and illustrating a functional yet artistic map for Within the Village, a business dedicated to promoting the charm and character of Roundstone Village. The map is double-sided, with one side highlighting key attractions and natural beauty spots in the Connemara region, and the other side focusing on the businesses and amenities within the village itself.

My approach was to blend practicality with creativity, ensuring the maps were not only easy to navigate but also served as keepsakes for visitors. I used a combination of hand-drawn and digital illustration techniques to bring out the unique personality of the area and its businesses. Each element, from iconic landmarks to shopfronts, was illustrated with attention to detail to celebrate the vibrant community and stunning landscape.
